About M.F. Hussain

India’s tallest contemporary artist, M.F.Husain was an unmatched forerunner of public art, A Peoples Artist with zeal and commitment... with lust for life till the very end. He never wore a wrist watch but his timing was always perfect. He knew exactly where to be and when. Mere Dil ki Dharkan, Meri Kahani, Apni Zubani, Murano glass horses from Venice, fleet of raceing cars, a beautiful muse, here, there, everywhere is a testimony of this proud Indian Artist who gave a new visual meaning to Ramayana and Mahabharta.

Think long, think hard, think again dear friends and foes. No body can, ever, take away the genious oof the Maestro Maqbool Fida Husain who carried the TIRANGA of Indian Contemporary Art,single handedly all over the globe. A one man Institution with perfect history, geography and chemistery.
Long live India..Long live Husain Saheb.

Husain saheb is well known for his first experimental film, Thru the Eyes of a Painter which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in i967. I had the privilege of seeing his four other short films aswell, where he handled the camera himself.

In Of Gods and Men, Painters Sketchbook, Mudra and Folk Dance, Husain eliminated the spoken word... only sound, the language of feeling establishing the repport with the viewers telling the unwritten story with his long fingers sketching with rural rhythms along with jazz music proveing the universality of soun

About India International Centre

We have been all over the globe, not once or twice but hundred's of time, and have yet to find a place like India International Centre, New Delhi.

I.I.C. is unique for its architecture, for its liabrary, for its daily cultural programmes, seminars, open air plazas, art gallery exhibitions... all free not only for members & guests but for the general public too.

The hostel accomodation, dineing hall-cafetaria lounge for members is of excellent quality. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. The garden all around is well kept.

We have family and friends in Delhi with bunglows in Safderjung Enclave & Sunder Nagar where we are welcome. But unless we have a 2-3 week confirmes booking at I.I.C.,we do not come to Delhi. The friendly service with art & culture, lectures, cinema, and unexpected meeting of old friends at the bar, all at one place give us tremendous pleasure. It's like home to us.

The only negative point is the snoring of some of our fellow senior members in the library... but what can one do...

About Triveni Kala Sangam

I feel Triveni Kala Sangam is still the most useful & attractive Art Complex in Delhi. It's architecture, its location, its professionalison, all are excellent. It's a good place to learn, to exhibit, to relax in the open air and eat in the cafetaria and chat in fresh air while waiting for paratha & raita. I miss the ambiance of Triveni.

About 'M.F. Husain Ki Kahani Apni Zubani'

On my last trip to India in Nov. 2009, I purchased 15 copies of this fasinating book and presented them to all my family & friends, all over. Here I’d like to share these thoughts with Husain Sahebs children & grand children…
Beeing an artist is rewarding, satisfying, aggravating, irritational and frustating profession and sometimes an extreemly exhausting one.
Beeing constantly in the company of small, un-informed, ill-informed, non-receptive humans can have a deterimental effect on one’s mental health.
Dear Shafaat, Raisa, Shamshad, Mustafa, Aqueela, Owais... all of you are Artists in your right and have to deal with all kinds of people,in all kinds of places.
We wish you peace and good health May your great father M.F. Husain’s legacy continue to give you strength & commitment to carry on, especially in these days of turmoil & upheal.
With Art,when Art interwines, miracles happen. In Giving, I Receive.

Hussain Sab's Fiat

My only ride in Husain Sahebs first car, a FIAT, was from Kunika-Chemould Art Center, C. Place to my Gallery Chanakya in Yashwant Place, Chanakyapuri in February 1969. He had painted his car with horses and women, his favourite subjects and called it Art on Wheels. He was a legend even then. Later on he gave this car to his good friend Ram Kumar who used to stay at Mathura road.

I also had the pleasure of seeing "Uski Roti" with him at Regal Cinema, sometime the same year. For his speed and energy, the film was very slow. After 15 minutes,he went to the lu and never came back. Over the next three decades, I had very interesting & rewarding experiences with the Maiestro. The best was on September 19, 1975 at the time of his 60th birthday exhibition at Gallery Chanakya, New Delhi. We all were waiting to wish him happy b.d. with wine and cheese. Later in the evening his son Shamshad comes with a beautiful letter addressed to me... Imagine our disappointment... more wine and cheese which was a novelty... During those days, everybody, all the artists went for rum & coke... Life goes on... My friend, my mentor, Husain is creating masterpieces in the presence of His LORD AND MASTER now, I have no dought. He has gone on a long journey with a long brush with charm and dignity. Alvida Husain Saheb, Alvida.

Homage to Hussain Sab

"En El Nombre, Del Padre
En El Nombre, Del Hijo
Y Del Espirito Santo"
In the name of the father, in the name of the son and the holy ghost, I send you all my love and affection for the tremendous energy you gave me. Like many many others in the world, you will always live in my heart and soul. I am married to a very proud Indian, Mendi, who has told me very beautiful stories about his association with you for a long time. Whereever you are Husain Sab, accept my love & admiration.

A thought for Hussain Sab's children

Shafaat, Shamshad, Raisa, Mustafa, Aqeela and Owais,
Please accept our gratitude for the love, affection and energy your respected father Husain Sab gave us during over four decades of our association with him.
We cherish those memories. We were keen to come to London to say farewell. We also wanted to come to India to participate in Sehmats Alvida-Adios March. Our health did not allow us to do so. Kindly accept our Greetings. May the Lord Almighty make your dreams of Husain Museums in Bombay and Delhi come true.
